The real Dok Mai Thong

You may have heard much about takrut Dok Mai Thong but few have really seen the real thing. The dried flower shown above is Dok Mai Thong. It is rare and difficult to plant. Most places are cautious about planting them because when the flower blooms it creates a sensual aura of sexual intimacy.

This Dok Mai has been blessed by Ven. LP Sanie Chan of Wat Huay Chod. Of course naturally it is endowed with energy Metta and Sanae but with Ven. LP’s blessing, it works even better.

For those whom favors, Metta Oil but are worried that some irresponsible traders may add a little of Nam man Prai (coprse’s oil) to spice it up for greater strenght but may bring grave results subsequently.

You can add your own favourite fragrant oil (natural without alcohol) into a glass bottle with this flower in it. If the bottle is exposed to air, not only will it smells wonderful but it carries positive energy of Metta and Sanae. Or you may keep it at home but dab a little of this oil on the tip of your nose and run it up to your forehead, 3 times before you go out to work or meet someone.

Phra Phrom, The Great Brahma

Since the period of more than 5,000 years ago, the disciples of Brahman had paid homage to Phra Phrom as one of their highly esteemed God in their religion. The Brahman religion was known to be one of the religion that had the longest history. This religion was mainly symbolised by 3 major God i.e. God Brahma, God Vishnu and God Shiva, which also form the main body of the religion. The originality of this Trinity was that the Brahman religion believed that these 3 Gods combined their powers to create this Buddhist world (the Earth is part of it).
1. BRAHMA: Creator of the world and all things.
2. VISHNU: Preserver of all things.
3. SHIVA: Destroyer that makes all things exist and perish according to natural cycles.

In Buddhist Literature, Brahma was also described as the great Brahma. During such time, though, Buddhism was prevalent, the prac¬tices of Brahman religion were also accepted by Buddhism, and as a result both were able to exist in harmony.
The feature of Great Brahma was a God with 4 faces and 4 pair of hands. Many ignorant people knew him as the 4-face Buddha. In fact in the record of Buddhist literature, he belongs to the class of God and not Buddha, therefore it will be more proper to call him as 4 face God or the Great Brahma.
The significance of the 4 faces of the Great Brahma was to offer help to all cry from all directions, to attend to any slightest request for help, to see to it that everything was just and fair, to release all mood and gloom of the human behaviour as wished.

 
It was also believed that there were specific significant in the religious items held by the hands and the posture. Each religious item significance was interpreted as follow:-

  1. Book: Represents knowledge
  2. Bead: Represents Control Karma
  3. Spear Stick: Represents will power
  4. Flower Vase: Represents Blessing water (All Requests are fulfilled) 
  5. Conch Shell: Represents offer of wealth
  6. Mystic position of hand placed on chest: Represents offering compassion
  7. Flying wheel: Represents clearing of disaster and calamities, suppress evil, release all gloominess and worries; Cakka 
  8. Cinta Mani: Represents Almighty power of Buddha.

As for the legends about Brahma there are more than the total number of legends of his partners. Among them, some are glorifying while some are destructive libels that make everyone condemnes, and some are delibrate exaggerated mystery.
One of the exaggerated mystery known of as commonly used by the tourist guides who tried to use it as propaganda and even a movie, “Demons Rearing” shown here before, also has the same portray in the script.
It said that if one hope to have the wishes fulfilled, then one should get a female strip-tease dancer in front of God Brahma as offer. This was not only misleading, also it was sinful, offensive and disrespect to God Brahma. It is hope that all merciful and ever responsive Great Brahma will extend to these people, his generous pardon and forgiveness.
In many places in Asia, many people like to pay homage to Brahma and in recent years, because of the prosperous developments of commerce and industry in Hongkong and Singapore, and also due to the Thai Buddhism religious culture being widespread, many people who have been to Thailand have brought back Buddhist image for worship and Brahma is one of those favourite being worshipped. Other than Hong Kong and Singapore, Brahma can be seem in many places in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei etc. Now, Brahma is no longer restricted to be worshipped in Indian temples only.
The power of Brahma: Give help to important duty, preservation of land and properties, rescue when life is in danger, prosper industry.
Method of worship for request: Have the intention written on paper and place it under the image, as most suitable. Any kind of languages is acceptable.

The following is the Time-table for praying for blessings and praying for fullfiling one’s wish with regards to various aspects of daily life affairs:

ChakGaJan (蝉) Riak Sap ( Cicada that attracts wealth )

About Cicada

A cicada is an insect in the superfamily Cicadoidea, with large eyes wide apart on the head and usually transparent, well-veined wings. There are about 2,500 species of cicada around the world, and many remain unclassified. Cicadas live in temperate to tropical climates where they are among the most widely recognized of all insects, mainly due to their large size and remarkable acoustic talents.

Cicadas are benign to humans and do not bite or sting. Shells of cicadas are employed in the traditional medicines of China.

After mating, the female cuts slits into the bark of a twig, and into these she deposits her eggs. She may do so repeatedly, until she has laid several hundred eggs. When the eggs hatch, the newborn nymphs drop to the ground, where they burrow. Most cicadas go through a life cycle that lasts from two to five years and some as long as 17 years.

Cicadas live underground as nymphs for most of their lives. The nymphs feed on root juice and have strong front legs for digging.

In the final nymphal instar, they construct an exit tunnel to the surface and emerge. They then molt (shed their skins), on a nearby plant for the last time and emerge as adults. The abandoned skins remain, still clinging to the bark of tree.

Finding Cicada

Locating them in deep jungles.

A permission ritual is carried out before digging them up. Because like Ven. LP Sanie Chan called it ChakGaJan Riak Sap Kayasit Thevasaktik, it means this cicadas is naturally endowed with auspicious energy and has Thep/Theva or celestials guarding them. Therefore proper rituals have to be conducted before digging them up.

Found one!!! Is is not very common to find them, the last time we had them was about 5 years ago. Some Ven. LPs made bronze or brass cicadas or carved cicadas from jade, but nothing is better than the natural real cicadas.

Only had 5 so far.

We cleaned them from sand and dust, and now we bring to Ven. LPs to thevaphisek or poksek.

Why is cicadas so popular?

Nowadays we commonly see fengshui practitioners introducing them to their clients, but mostly in jade or metal form. These knowledge of auspiciousness of cicadas go all the way back to ancient China. The cicada was a symbol of renewed life and immortality. As early as the Shang Dynasty (1523-1027 BCE) the Chinese were impressed by the dramatic life cycle of this insect. Beginning life as an ugly whittish grub that lives for seven to thirteen years underground. It then eventually tunnels to the surface and emerges as a flying creature. Like other creatures that seem magically reborn in dramatically different forms.

See it molt or shed skin!

In China, the phrase ‘to shed off the golden cicada skin’ is the poetic name of the tactic of using deception to escape danger, specifically of using decoys (leaving the old shell) to fool enemies. It became one of the 36 classic Chinese strategems. In the Chinese classic Journey to the West, the protagonist Priest of Tang was named the Golden Cicada; in this context the multiple shedding of shell of the cicada symbolizes the many stages of transformation required of a person before all illusions have been broken and one reaches enlightenment.

Cicada is considered auspicious because it symbolises happiness and eternal youth.

The cicada also symbolizes regeneration, rebirth and immortality. The cicadas was depicted on Shang rituals bronzes buried with the dead, and later jade or marble carved cicadas were placed in the mouth of the deceased. Because of the length of its life cycle-as much as seventeen years- the cicadas also symbolizes longevity.

Venerable Doctor Jivaka Komarabhacca ( Mo Ji Vo )

Summary

In the beginning of the Lord Buddha’s period. Buddhism was widely prevalent in Rajagaha City. The monks who were living there had to take care of themselves when they were sick. They sometimes got some medicines from their relatives or from the people who expressed willing to provide the medicines for the monks in advance. There were no conveniences at all for the monks in those days.

When Ven. Dr. Jivaka Komarabhacca had graduated from Taxila. He surrendered himself to be a public doctor and he provided the medical services for the Lord Buddha, the sick monks. All the medical – conveniences and more comfortable treatment were provided by Jivaka Komarabhacca.

Ven. Dr. Jivaka Kormarabhacca satisfied the King Bimbisara so that he was appointed by the king to be a doctor for Royal family. He also gave the treatment to king’s internal subordinates.

Apart from this, Ven. Dr. gave the neuro-surgery for brain symptoms to the millionaire of Rajagaha City and the abdominal operation for Varanasi millionaire’s son. This indicated that the medical treatment which Jivaka Komarabhacca used in those days, was very advanced like the present treatment has been.

Apart from the medical treatment, Ven. Dr. Jivaka Komarabhacca had also played a key role in improving the monk’s living standard e.g. he approached to the Lord Buddha and informed the Lord Buddha to give an allowance of walking up and down-seat and fire-house to the monks. And previously the monks faced the difficulties in searching for the clothes, he requested the Lord Buddha to give an allowance of the clothes. That is to say, the monks could directly received the clothes provided by the house-holders. As a result of this, the monks lived the more comfortable life upto the present.

Ven. Dr. Jivaka Komarabhacca also felt care about the social condemnation of meat-eating of the monks. He asked for suggestion from the Lord Buddha on how to do about meat-eating. The Lord Buddha laid down the regulation for this case that the monks were allowed to eat the meat sold publicly in the market, but not to eat the meat prepared specifically for them.

Jivaka Sutta

Ven. Dr. was not only the greatest doctor in the Buddhist era but also a good man who had the oblinging, requitaliting for the done favours, mindful equipped with wisdom and energy. He had the responsibility to all his patients and the society.

The individual conduct and role of Ven. Dr. Jivaka Komarabhacca pertaining to giving many services to Buddhism e.g. medical service, clothes service etc. became the good direction which the monks and lay disciples in later generation has followed up to the present.


Life of Venerable Doctor Jivaka Komarabhacca

At the time of the Buddha, among the lay physicians, the most renowned was Ven. Dr. Jivaka Komarabhacca, who is described as providing free medical care to the Buddha and other monks and donating his mango grove at Rajagaha for use as a monastic community, named Jivaka Ambhava. Jivaka’s fame as a healer was widely known and tales about his life and medical feats can be found in almost all versions of Buddhist scriptures.

History

A courtesan of Rajagaha named Salavati, gave birth to a son whom was then given to a slave woman, who placed him in a winnowing basket, which was thrown on a rubbish heap.

The infant is taken and raised by the king’s son Abhaya.The boy is given the name Jivaka because he was alive (from root jiv, to live), and because a prince cared for him he is called Komarabhacca (nourished by a prince).

Medical Skills

Jivaka, as he approached the age at which he must seek his own livelihood, decided to learn the art of healing. Hearing about a world-famous healer in Taxila, he traveled to that city, famous for education, to apprentice with the eminent doctor.

After seven years of medical study;To test his knowledge, his teacher asked him to go all round Taxila to search for any plant which was not medicinal and bring it back. Jivaka proved to be so proficient in medicinal plants that he returned after a long search and declared that he had not seen any plant that was not medicinal within a yojana (13 km) of Taxila. Returning to Rajgir, he cured many people suffering from serious ailments and even performed surgery, something unheard of in those days. He became the leading physician and surgeon of Rajgir and earned great wealth through his medical practice.

At some point in his career, he became a lay disciple and used to attend on the Buddha three times a day. When the Buddha’s foot was injured by a splinter from a rock hurled by Devadatta, it was Jivaka who attended on him and healed the wound. Realizing the advantages of having a monastery near his home, Jivaka built one on his extensive mango garden called Jivaka Ambhava. It is situated between the city’s East Gate and Gijjhakuta, and the site has been identified a short distance from the foot of Gijjhakuta, and donated it to the Buddha. The site of this monastery was excavated recently, which exposed the buried foundations of elliptical buildings, possibly of monastic nature, of an early date.

What is so special about this Rooplor MoCiVo Jindamanee???

Let me share with you briefly what this article is about.

The Teacher in the photo is none other than Ven. LP Perm Wat Klang Bang Kaew, disciple of the ever famous Ven. LP Boon Wat Klang Bang Kaew. He is making Pong Jawassana Jindamanee in the photo. In his lifetime of practice, he made it once only.

It is very difficult to explain Pong Jawassana Jindamanee. To say it is very powerful, it may seem unreal or exaggerated. To say it is very effective seems uninteresting and an understatement. May I say, it is truly out of the world . Very very few Teacher can do it 101% well. In Thai, its potency is often referred as ‘Kop Cakkawan’ means it encompass everthing in the universe. It has great healing potencies, it is said to heal everything in the universe. It enhances luck, loving-kindness, and avoiding misfortunes.

How did this Pong Jawassana Jindamanee come about?

It was used, during His Majesty King Naret ( Naresuan ) in Ayuddhaya Era. This special formula was prepared by Somdej Phra Panarat of Wat Pah Kaew. It is made for His Majesty to build his immune system so strong that he is free from all illness and empower him with all the greatness in the universe. As we all know His Majesty King Naret is so strong physically and sharp mentally that he won many great wars then and declared Thai independence from Hongsawadi, Burma.

Unfortunately, when Burma invaded Ayuddhaya again, they have burn down many temples and as a result may important kathas was lost. However this formula was first inherited by Ven. LP Sook Wat PakKlong, Petburi but no body knew how did Ven. LP Boon Wat Klang Bang Kaew got this lost formula. That was why Ven. LP Boon’s amulets with Pong Jawassana Jindamanee is very high in value and in great demand. Then the formula was passed down from Ven. LP Boon to his two other disciples, Ven. LP Perm and Ven. LP Thong Yew. Both of them though hardly created much of Pong Jawassana Jindamanee. And now this formula is with Ven. LP Somyod because he is related in blood to Ven. LP Boon. 

What is Pong Jawassana Jindamanee?

Pong Jindamanee is a combination of 30 over natural herbs and woods. It undergoes a strenous katha incantations and Vipassana meditation during phisek ceremony until it become lively and omni potent. At the base of the rooplor, it was written ‘Arokhaya ParamaLapha’, Arokhaya means free from any illness and ParamaLapha means great luck in being healthy. Or it simply means ‘Health is Wealth’.

It took Ven. LP Somyod many years before he finally collected all the combination of herbs. Ven. LP is a perfectionist, he won’t start making until he obtained all the herbs with the right quantity. Ven. LP is already very generous with his pong because most Teachers will only sprinkle some into their amulets but for this MoJiWo, it is 100% solid pong, no harderner. That is why it can be eaten when an urgent situation arises!

In Thailand, there have already been many instances where Pong Cindamanee have proven its prowess. There was one time when a wealthy man was diagnosed of critical illness and the doctor told his son that his father will not last long. His son found Pong Cindamanee and fed his father regularly. His father was miraculously cured. The wealthy man then desperately tried to acquired all the Pong he can but unfortunately it is not something that can be made ready easily.

Another occasion was when a woman was brought to seek Ven. LP Thong Yew after being inflicted with dark soccerry. All Ven. LP did was prepared a drink with Pong Cindamanee for her. As a result she vommitted out the bad things in her body and was subsequently recovered.

We pray for the one whom we touch, that he will be happy and that any illness will be released from him.”

Maha Sadhu to Ven. Sivali!!!

We still receive much thank you notes and calls on Phra Sivali CharoenLap. We still have people calling on us to give more…sorry… sometimes we are afraid that giving it too easily, people seldom appreciate it. But so far so good, the response is very encouraging.

We have much enquiries on why they felt that this Phra Sivali CharoenLap is saksit (responsive or ability to grant wishes effectively).

  • First of all Phra Sivali…mah! Even more than 2552 years ago, Buddha instructed his disciples to make sure Phra Sivali is with them when they are going to remote or difficult areas to cultivate or practise. Because no matter how tough or difficult the journey or area, monks will definitely get offerings of food and other requisites because of Phra Sivali presence.
  • The 4 conditions prevail:
    1. Khong Dee ( Good things ) – It is made of very good and rare materials.
    2. Khun Dee ( Good people ) – All the people are involved, from the Ven. LPs to the volunteers/ commitees are good people.
    3. Phisek Dee ( Good ceremonial blessings ) – We not only have one but 6 good puthaphisek. Ven. LP SanieChan puthaphisek 3days and 3 nights on Wan Songkran.  If you were to spread the map of Thailand in front of you and locate all the 6 temples, you will realised that the temples are all very far apart. Imagine the time, donations and petrol involved. We donate RM1,000 to every Teacher that puthaphisek for us, that itself is RM6,000!!!

The above shown is the batch of Phra Sivali, we are giving out to filial Buddhist Devotees on Wesak Day May 2009.

The upper portion brown powderish element are holy earth from Khao Kulen, Cambodia. The mid portion metal elements are Phra Kring Wat Suthat materials. One piece of Khao Sarn Hin rice embedded. The brownish sand-like elements at the lower portion are materials from Phra Ubosod of Wat Rakang.

How to revere Phra Sivali
Every Thursday, other than the usual offering of flowers, a glass of water and incense sticks. We seldom put the flower wreath around any buchas. Just put them into a clean tray or offer stalks of flowers in a vase. Put 9 pieces of white jasmine flower into the glass of water. It is important to offer honey, preferably pure/raw honey.

Phra Siwichai Roon Raek Ven. ChaoKhun Bao Wat Kalai

Ven. ChaoKhun Bao, Wat Kalai, Kedah

This amulet is called Phra Siwichai because the holy powder is obtained from caves of Maha Srivijaya Kingdom era. It was believed then that holy men practised in such caves at those time. Therefore such caves have great spiritual energies and guardians.

It was rumoured that this Phra Siwichai began much sought after a shooting incident in Bentong. It was rumoured that the victim survived miraculously. Not just once but the Phra Siwichai have delivered many unexplaineable protective influence over it’s bearer.

At the left hand bottom, there is a physical condition that looks like a crack or chip off. It is purportedly chiped off to see and ensure the materials inside is relevant. Other than that, this piece of Phra Siwichai is of good condition. Many people are confused, some says that 1st batch or roon raek has yant behind. While everbody is entitled to their own opinions, we maintain that the piece featured above is 1st batch or roon raek.

Takrut Duang Ven. LP Selood Wat Kuk U Thong

This takrut is a special request made by SaengThai for our members. Three years ago, we requested Ven. LP to give us something special to help our members to make better living. Ven. LP told us of this Takrut Duang and when immersed into our oil lamp, it is as if the energy of the chants and yants are constantly emanating from the light. Ven. LP made these special takruts with serial numbers and codes.

The Yant inscribe on this takrut was made popular by Luang Po Suk, Wat Makamtao. It is Yant Nak Mo Budh Dha Yak. Though Nak Mo Budh Dha Yak is commonly known as 5 Phrak Ong or The Five Great Buddhas, many great teachers or Luang Po have taught laymen to chant these 5 powerful syllables, Nak Mo Budh Dha Yak, that brings protection and blessings in many ways. Duang refers to Luck of individual person or a certain day (see below).

 

You may find Pu Duang Dee, astrological diagram of good luck of a certain day among Jathukram amulets or Phra Rahu. Whereas the ever famous Ven. LP Khoon Wat BanRai usually has his Pu Duang at the back of his amulets. Usually some Archans will write our individual date of birth on such Pu Duang on takruts or amulets.

Takrut Duang is specially made to be placed inside oil lamp. The energy of Takrut Duang will shine from the light. Therefore it is ideal if the light/flame is continuous day and night.

Phra Phim ChanNakMan (Victory over Mara)

This amulet is 3.5cm by 5.5cm. Putha phisek by Ven. LP Thong Dam Wat ThamTapianThong and Ven. LP SanieChan Wat Huay Chod. It is made from the same materials to make Phra Sivali CharoenLap. We are happy to announce that we found Khao Sarn Hin/Rice turned stone (photo above) . It is remanants of rice that survived from prehistoric times. Most Teachers use them as auspicious stones. Ven. LP Boon Kerk Wat KhaoDin embeds them into his amulets. We will add them into this amulet as an auspiciuos item that symbolizes good livelihood. It will also serve as a symbolic for Chao Mae Po Suk rice harvest.

The front image depicts, Siddharta Gautama the Buddha-To-Be, meditating vigorously beneath the Bodhi Tree during the last hours of Enlightenment. However Mara, afraid that the determined Siddharta Gautama may achieve his Ultimate Goal, employed various tactics to stop him. Chao Mae Toranee, Goddess of Earth, protected Siddharta by eliminating Mara and his armies of darkness by creating a whirlpool to drown them with her long hair. This symbolize that the bearer of this amulet will be blessed with victories, ChanNak, over obstacales faced by the bearer, Man.

The back is an image of Chao Mae PoSuk, Goddess of Harvest. It represents that the bearer will be blessed with great accomplishment after much wholesome efforts with Me Ka Mak(Mu) Uk, the yant at the corners of the amulet. It represents:

Metta meaning universal love

Karuna meaning compassionate

Mudita meaning “sympathetic joy” or “happiness at another’s success in life.”

Upekha meaning equanimity or even tempered, undisturbed

We believe with PhromWiHanSi of Me Ka Mu U, everything we embark on in life will be successful.

Both the Phra Phim ChanNakMan and Phra Sivali CharoenLap will only be made available end of May because on the 11th May 2009 will be Ploughing Festival. A special putha phisek on this auspicious day will be conducted for them. Therfore this amulets will go through 3 big putha phisek, when complete in Temple, during Songkran in April and during Ploughing Festival.

These 20 pieces, 19 pieces with 3 gold takruts and only a single piece with 9 gold takruts had altogether 7 times chanting. Ven. LP Dam Wat SantitTham chanted this batch 3 days and 3 nights (6/3-8/3) over Piti WaiKru ceremony and Ven. LP SanieChan chanted this batch on a very auspicious date on 11th March 2009 called Wan ThongChan. Ven.
